Homestays
Some households in Singapore especially those in HDB flats open up their homes and offer full boarding for international students. The cost of homestay ranges from S$500 to S$1,000 per month including bills. You will need to check the local papers for latest updates on the rates and homes available. A great option if you are in a group of 3 or more.

Private Apartments and Houses
Students may want to rent a room, apartment or house directly from the owners of public/private housing. Classified advertisements in local newspapers such as The Straits Times provide a listing of accommodation for rent. New tenants are expected to pay at least one month of rent in advance and one month security deposit.

Is it necessary to live near my workplace?

No. Singapore's has a great public transport system and travel is relatively cheap and efficient, making it easy to travel from point A to point B.
